Protecting Our Precious Rivers
It is an absolute priority that we retain a healthy Murray Darling River and the commission of the Menindee Lakes Scheme/the Greater Anabranch, for the use of Indigenous Peoples, properties, towns, recreation, environment and ensure supply sustainable flows to supplement water from the Murray River to South Australia.
Farmers/local townsfolk have criticised the MDBP for underestimating the jobs losses and the impact that it would have on towns in related districts. River communities are also concerned about the devaluation of property prices due to the proposed water cuts.
A predictable consequence of introduced water trading is the rampant speculation on the price of water during a drought. Market highs of $1000 per megalitre, previously, put huge financial strain on any farm operation forced to buy water, subsequently, to run at a loss.
"Blind Freddy" can see that what was once a citizen's right to water has turned into a commodity for profits of the very few, most of whom are foreign nationals with little interest in the survival of our precious river systems or local river townships...simply pillage what us Aussie's depend on, make a "short term buck", pay no taxes...all for what...shareholder dividends and subsequent huge upper management bonuses.
When I am elected I will make this my priority.
